Ardelyx™ was founded by Dominique Charmot and Jean M. Frechet in late 2007. Dr. Charmot occupied various R&D positions in the chemical industry, including Symyx Technologies Inc., where he was in charge of development of high throughput/combinatorial methods. He co-founded Ilypsa in 2003, a polymeric drug company that was acquired by Amgen for $420M in 2007. Dr. Frechet is the Henry Rapoport Chair of Organic Chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley and a Scientific Director of the Molecular Foundry at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. He has worked closely with industry and has been credited with major innovations in organic and materials chemistry as well as polymer therapeutics.
Ardelyx™ received seed funding from private investors including Jean M. Frechet and Peter G. Schultz. Dr. Schultz is the Scripps Professor of Chemistry at The Scripps Research Institute and Director of the Genomics Institute of the Novartis Research Foundation (GNF). Dr. Schultz has made a number of major contributions to science and is a founding scientist of Affymax Research Institute and co-founder of Symyx Technologies, Syrrx, Kalypsys, Phenomix, Ilypsa, Ambrx and Wildcat Technologies.
